Kyrgyzstan Adoption Program

Program Status:  CLOSED

– Kyrgyzstan is NOT a Hague Program –

Adoptable Children

The children from Kyrgyzstan are mostly Asian and Eurasian.  At the time of referral, the ages can vary from 6 months to 15 years.

  • Kyrgyzstan does have guidelines for acceptability of prospective adopting parents.
  • Parents should be no more than 45 years older than the child they wish to adopt (this is based on the youngest adoptive parent).  Exceptions may be made depending upon age of children and if the child has special needs.  Please contact us for more information about this.
  • Kyrgyzstan does accept married couples and single women, however, single men are not allowed to adopt at this time.

The process and procedures for adopting from Kyrgyzstan usually occurs as follows:

  • After KTA receives a completed dossier from parents, we proof the dossier to the best of our abilities and send it to our coordinators.
  • The dossier is translated in Kyrgyzstan and then sent back to the US.
  • The dossier must go through steps of “authentication” by the Kyrgyzstan Embassy in the US.  THIS IS EXPENSIVE!!
  • The dossier is then registered in Kyrgyzstan and parents receive a travel date.  This date usually ends up being 1 to 3 months after your dossier is registered in Kyrgyzstan.
  • Parents officially receive their referral and travel on their first trip to visit their child.  Both parents must travel on this trip, although one may leave after the first week (and after officially accepting the referral).
  • Parents return home to the US while their coordinator goes to court for them.
  • If the adoption is approved by court, the parents must then wait 1-3 months before traveling on their second trip.
  • Parents travel back to Kyrgyzstan to complete paperwork.  This trip usually lasts 1-2 weeks and only one parent is required to go.
  • In Kyrgyzstan, parents take legal custody of their child and travel to Kazakhstan to the US Embassy to complete immigration.
  • Parents return to the US with their child.
  • Parents complete Post Adoption reports, as required by Kyrgyzstan law at the time of the adoption.

NOTE:  The estimated time it takes to complete a Kyrgyzstan adoption is 6 to 12 months. For a healthy child, the estimated waiting time is 3+ years.
