Adoptable Children
Kazakhstan children vary in appearance; most are ethnic Kazakh, but there are also Caucasian and Eurasian children. At time of referral, children vary from 6 months to 15 years of age.
Eligibility
- Kazakhstan is not usually too strict when it comes to parents qualifying for adoption.
- Usually, parents should be no more than 50 years older than the child they wish to adopt—although exceptions are sometimes made for children with special needs.
- Kazakhstan currently accepts married couples and single women, however, not single men.
Procedures
The process and procedures for adopting from Kazakhstan usually occurs as follows:
- After KTA receives a completed dossier from parents, we proof the dossier to the best of our abilities and send it to our coordinators.
- If there are no problems with your paperwork, our coordinators send it to Kazakhstan to be translated.
- After translation, there is a lengthy dossier approval process that must occur (can take 4 months or longer).
- After the dossier has been accepted, parents receive a Letter of Invitation to travel to Kazakhstan. This too can be a slow process.
- Parents travel to receive a referral from the Central Authority, complete mandatory 2 week visitation and attend court. Being assigned a court date can be a very slow process and in some regions many families are coming home to wait for a date.
- Parents may stay in country or return home and wait for adoption to be finalized (NOTE: travel, depending on region, can either be one long trip of 6-8 weeks, 2 trips of about 3 weeks long, or 3 shorter trips).
- After finalization, parents may bring their child home.
- Parents complete Post Adoption reports, as required by Kazakhstan law at the time of the adoption.
NOTES:
- All travel requirements vary by region and are difficult to predict as they depend on the court date (which depends on the judge’s availability).
- The estimated time it takes to complete a Kazakhstan adoption is 12 to 18 months, depending on a variety of factors.
